في إطار التوعية بالمخاطر الاجتماعية التي تهدد النسيج المجتمعي نظم قسم البرمجيات بالتعاون مع وحدتي الإرشاد النفسي والتوجيه التربوي ووحدة شؤون المرأة في كلية تكنولوجيا المعلومات ورشة عمل بعنوان "الزواج المبكر وأثره على التسرب المدرسي وعمالة الأطفال" قدمتها م.د. هبة محمد جعفر و أ.م.د. خولة كاظم محمد التدريسية في قسم البرمجيات.

تناولت الورشة قضية الزواج المبكر باعتبارها ظاهرة متفشية في المجتمع العراقي، والتي تزايدت آثارها السلبية على المستويات الصحية والاجتماعية والنفسية، خاصة على المرأة، كما تطرقت إلى العوامل التي تسهم في انتشار هذه الظاهرة، ومنها العادات والتقاليد الاجتماعية، والأوضاع الاقتصادية الصعبة التي تدفع بعض العائلات إلى تزويج بناتهن في سن مبكرة بغرض التخفيف من الأعباء المالية أو الاستفادة من المهور.

كما سلطت الورشة الضوء على انعكاسات الزواج المبكر على ارتفاع نسب التسرب المدرسي بين الفتيات، وتأثيره المباشر على زيادة عمالة الأطفال، حيث تفقد الفتيات فرصتهن في استكمال التعليم والانخراط في سوق العمل بسن غير مناسبة، مما يؤدي إلى مشكلات اجتماعية واقتصادية متفاقمة.

وهدفت الورشة إلى نشر الوعي حول المخاطر المترتبة على هذه الظاهرة، والتأكيد على أهمية التعليم كوسيلة أساسية لحماية الفتيات، إضافة إلى مناقشة السبل الممكنة للحد من انتشار الزواج المبكر عبر تعزيز التشريعات القانونية، وبرامج التثقيف الأسري، ودعم الفتيات لإكمال مسيرتهن التعليمية.

The Software Department at the College of Information Technology Organizes a Workshop on Early Marriage and Its Social Implications

As part of efforts to raise awareness about social risks threatening the fabric of society, the Software Department, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Information Technology, organized a workshop titled "Early Marriage and Its Impact on School Dropout and Child Labor." The session was presented by Dr. Hiba Mohammed Jaafar and Dr. Khawla Kazem Mohammed, faculty members in the Software Department.

The workshop addressed the issue of early marriage as a widespread phenomenon in Iraqi society, emphasizing its growing negative consequences on health, social well-being, and psychological stability, particularly for women. It also explored the factors contributing to the prevalence of early marriage, such as deep-rooted social traditions and economic hardships that push some families to marry off their daughters at a young age to alleviate financial burdens or benefit from dowries.

Additionally, the workshop shed light on the direct correlation between early marriage and increased school dropout rates among girls, as well as its contribution to rising child labor. Many young girls are deprived of the opportunity to complete their education, forcing them into the workforce at an unsuitable age, which exacerbates various social and economic challenges.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of early marriage and emphasize education as a fundamental tool for protecting young girls. It also discussed potential strategies to mitigate this issue, including strengthening legal frameworks, implementing family education programs, and providing greater support for girls to continue their education.
